On the 28th October 2017, just one week after Crystal Symphony left the shipyard in Germany after her longest every dry dock (33 days), the TCP team flew out to Barcelona to see her brand new look. This large refurbishment has bought significant changes to the ship including open-seating dining, new dining venues, more state-of-the-art technologies, including complimentary unlimited Wi-Fi, and brand new Seabreeze category Penthouses and Penthouse Suites (which we were unfortunately unable to see on this trip due to us visiting Crystal Symphony mid-cruise – they were completely sold out).
Upon boarding, we headed straight to Waterside (formerly The Crystal Dining Room) on Deck 5. Waterside is the main restaurant onboard Crystal Symphony and is open for breakfast, lunch and dinner. Guests can now dine at their leisure as Waterside offers open-seating dining in place of the traditional fixed dining previously offered. Waterside also boasts an entirely new look. The sophisticated dining venue features plush new carpets, a beautiful new colour scheme and an enticing new entrance. Take a look at the photos below:
Next, we headed to deck 6 – home of the Starlite Club. This is an area where guests can enjoy anything from live entertainment in the evening, to curling up in a corner to read the book they just picked up from the onboard library. This venue has been given a new, modern and contemporary look, with an eye catching colour scheme of shades of blue & silver…
Formerly known as Silk Road, Umi Uma is one of two speciality dining venues onboard. Here, guests can enjoy cuisine at Nobuyaki “Nobu” Matsuhisa’s only sea-going restaurant, which is also available on Crystal Serenity. The decor of this restaurant has not been changed, however the menu has been refreshed and more vegetarian options have been added . Umi Uma is Japanese for seahorse – reflecting Crystal’s iconic logo.
Trident Grill is your one-stop-shop for delicious grilled food. With a menu that includes burgers, toasted sandwiches and salads, Trident Grill is open from 11:30am to 6:00pm. This casual dining venue is now bursting with light and colour. The only thing that hasn’t changed is the smile on the faces of the staff.
Next, we walk into Silk, a brand new dining venue. Silk is open for breakfast, lunch and dinner, serving Chinese-inspired al fresco dining. Silk offers a variety of authentic delicacies such as dumplings, porridge, and savoury crepes for breakfast, and favourites such as dim sum, noodles and soups for lunch. The dinner menu features tantalising family-style sharing plates sure to impress any food aficionado. Where better to enjoy this mouth watering cuisine than in the new spacious, colourful and atmospheric Silk. Alongside Silk is the brand new Silk Lounge. A stylish lounge bar perfect for a pre-dinner aperitif…
Crystal Symphony also has another dining venue which has not changed in appearance, but has changed cuisine. Formerly known as the Lido Cafe, the Marketplace is a fresh and friendly venue for breakfast and lunch, with an open kitchen preparing made-to-order favourites such as handmade pasta, sandwiches, fresh salads and more!
Marketplace by day, Churrascaria by night. Each evening, Marketplace transforms into a Brazilian steakhouse – Churrascaria. Serving succulent cuts and ceviches, guests can savour a selection of mouth-watering tapas, salads and seafood all accompanied by delicious Caiparinha cocktails. You can enjoy open seating in Churrascaria.

“Whilst the new penthouse designs grab the headlines, it’s more the subtle things, many of which are intangible, such as open dining and free unlimited Wi-Fi, which will appeal to most guests. Visually, the changes to the area that was ‘Trident’, this informal dining area is by far the most striking, providing a stylish environment for the two new dining experiences onboard.
